The Tree Of Good And Evil?
by steven masone
Gen 2:17 "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."
A tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Obviously we can reason that all the other trees were good! But this one tree was good and evil. Was the fruit really "Knowledge?" But Eve saw that it was good for food. (lust of the flesh) pleasant tothe eyes (lust of the eyes) to be desired to make one wise. (pride of life)
3:6 "And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food , and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise , she took of the fruit thereof , and did eat , and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
Adam and Eve were made in the image of God. They were good.
The fruit/knowledge did not make them gods. They admitted such as they confessed "the serpent beguiled me" The evil corrupted their created likeness of God. God is light. Their light/image was dimmed and darkened. Their good was no longer God's good. Had the tree been a Well, God would have said; drink from all the water in the garden, but do not drink from the Well of the Knowledge of good and evil. After they drank... same ending...their light from God darkened!
"I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot: I would that you were cold or hot. So then because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth."
If good is cold water to drink and evil is hot water to those that thirst, then lukewarm water is good and evil. But the Lukewarm are deceived that their temperature is good! Their knowledge is darkened as is their wisdom and discernment. A tree that bears no good fruit is hewn down.
"Every tree that doesn't produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. " Matthew 7:19
So another metaphor for the tree that will cause you to die (spiritually), is the TREE OF LUKEWARMNESS!
WE ARE WHAT WE EAT!
