A "Parable" is worth a thousand words.

by steven masone

Psalms 49:4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

David speaks of his hearing a parable and in turn...interpretation of it through his gifting of prophetic psalms.

God can only reveal the secrets of his kingdom to the humble and trusting person who acknowledges the need for God and for his truth. The parables of Jesus will enlighten us if we approach them with an open mind and heart, ready to let them challenge us. If we approach them with the conviction that we already know the answer, then we, too, may look but not see, listen but not hear or understand.

David understood that it was God's voice & inspiration "opening dark (deep secrets)" through his ministry. Many times a minister should find fresh revelation as he preaches and teaches under the unction of The Holy Ghost.

The parable is, has been and always will be,
the language of the wise for speaking to the simple,
and the language of the simple for speaking to the wise…"

The first Parable Jesus spoke was the "Sower and the Seed" The Psalms and Proverbs line up here in "Law of first mention" The "law of first-mention" is the principle in the interpretation of Scripture which states that the first mention or occurrence of a subject in Scripture establishes an unchangeable pattern, with that subject remaining unchanged in the mind of God throughout Scripture.

Psalm 1:1 a]BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.(here we see the receiver of seed on good ground)

2 But his delight and desire are in the law of the Lord, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.(A)

3 And he shall be like a tree firmly planted [and tended] by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither; and everything he does shall prosper [and come to maturity].(B)

4 Not so the wicked [those disobedient and living without God are not so]. But they are like the chaff [worthless, dead, without substance] which the wind drives away.(bad ground)

5 Therefore the wicked [those disobedient and living without God] shall not stand [justified] in the judgment, nor [b]sinners in the congregation of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God].

6 For the Lord knows and is fully acquainted with the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly [those living outside God's will] shall perish (end in ruin and come to nought).

Proverbs 1:

1 THE PROVERBS (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 That people may know skillful and godly [b]Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight,

3 Receive instruction in wise dealing and the discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity,

4 That prudence may be given to the simple, and knowledge, discretion, and discernment to the youth--

5 The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly]--(A)

6 That people may understand a proverb and a figure of speech or an enigma with its interpretation, and the words of the wise and their dark sayings or riddles.

7 The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.(B)

8 My son, hear the instruction of your father; reject not nor forsake the teaching of your mother.

9 For they are a [victor's] chaplet (garland) of grace upon your head and chains and pendants [of gold worn by kings] for your neck.

( once again refers to the "SEED" of God's word for instruction in righteousness GOOD GROUND)

10My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.(C)

11 If they say, Come with us; let us lie in wait [to shed] blood, let us ambush the innocent without cause [and show that his piety is in vain]; (BAD Ground)

We can even see the Sower and The Seed in Genesis 1:1 God sowed his Light/Word into formless void Earth.

So a parable helps us to see "Truth" progressively according to our thirst hunger and humility as our eyes become accustomed to his "Marvelous Light!" As babes we see a parable from "milk fed eyes"...but should we fall into spiritual "know it all pride of life" we stay carnal.

Matthew 13:12 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

14And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

15For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

These are the unrepentant, but also those who become lukewarm and apostate Christians who have the "form of Godliness, but deny the power thereof" which in this light is "GROWTH" unto bearing fruit. A parable, proverb or rebuke is always about someone else.

But to the humble & hungry heart, repentance is not being wrong, it is the waters bringing life to the seed for Springtime unto a summer and fall harvest!

Jesus speaking to Nicodemus points out how one can be studied and know intellectually but miss spiritual Truth.

John 3

1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. ( Repent and die to self )

4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (born by water=Word water=repentance water= baptism water=Spirit)

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.(through Faith in the water/Word and Spirit)

9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
"Master of Israel" Theological Scholar who had missed it, but the "Seed" within him caused his hunger and he was led to seek truth. He could not see it but "Deep called unto deep, from where the seed was in him, and he could "Hear the Sound Thereof."

So the Sower and the Seed, is perhaps a foundational  truth we need to revisit and look at it's "Picture" and our position in that Picture. Are we on GOOD GROUND? Far away from

"The way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up" Under the shadow of the most high and not where the" sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away."

And not walking in the counsel of the ungodly where "they fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them"

A PARABLE is worth a thousand words....where are you in every Parable of GOD?
