A group in Australia have done a survey to see if their nation has a better percentage of surveyed that are actively fulfilling the Great Commission.
In the Great Commission Survey, we want to find out from Christians all over Australia how many are fulfilling the Great Commission, how they are doing it, how regularly and what their walk with God is like.
Current statistics from USA state that only 2% of those professing to be Christians regularly share their faith. We would like to find out how the church in Australia fares when put under the same microscope.
Have we, as the church in this nation, so embraced the Australian 'she'll be right, mate' attitude that we have become blase about eternity? Are we so comfortable being in our churches and our worship and knowing that we're okay eternity-wise, that we neglect the purpose of the church - to reach out to the lost. We are meant to be a rescue ship, not a pleasure cruiser. We are to save those who are drowning in the sea of sin, even if they don't know it.
Another analogy that the Christian life can be likened to is the soldier, hence our name 'Soldiers of the Cross'. It's not our idea - the Bible calls us soldiers and talks about fighting in a battle, with weapons of warfare. We know that our enemy is three-fold - the world, the flesh and the Devil. When our Aussie soldiers go to war, they are usually fighting for something - to free people who have been oppressed or to possess certain land. In our battle against the Devil, what or who are we fighting for? Are we just fighting for ourselves or are we fighting for others to be free from the 'one who has taken them captive'? Are we fighting to possess this land for the Kingdom of God?
And if we aren't in a battle against the Devil, does that not speak volumes that perhaps we aren't doing anything for God, or even that we don't belong to God in the first place.
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap." Galatians 6:7"Examine yourself and see whether you are in the faith" 2 Corinthians 13:5"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord', will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven" Matthew 7:21"Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord....’, And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:22-23
