Kim Davis is in jail for refusing to issue licences to same sex couples. She cited religious conscience but also Kentucky law. By law. she can either be recalled by those who elected her.or impeached by the state legislature. The Governor does not have the authority to remove her as he has by de facto ...ordering licences issued by deputy clerks. Now there is only one reason the Judge can keep her in jail for... is if she will not resign! because if he lets her out, she still can take back her authority until lawful remedies remove her. She can annul what the deputies have done because it is still state law that makes it a misdemeanor to issue them licences. If any other action takes place, how can these critics keep shouting "Rule of Law?"

While Davis was a slave owner, it is worth noting that Davis did not run his plantation in the manner of most southern slaveholders of the era. One of his favorite slaves was overseer of the plantation; justice was administered by slave "courts," which decided guilt or innocence for "crimes" and then decided punishments. These courts were free to choose a variety of punishments including a warning, extra labor, etc. Furthermore, slaves were allowed to grow their own food in their own personal gardens and were given chickens to collect eggs from which they were allowed to sell for a profit. They also were allowed to pick their own names instead of having them chosen for them. Although to modern mores this social arrangement would be considered paternalistic and condescending at best, Davis's treatment of his slaves was uncommon and considered benevolent by white society in the antebellum South.

It's standard financial strategy that all corporations employ. Profit and non-profit. Many non religious non-profits have to protect themselves from civil litigation as well. My church feeds hot meals to over 500 people a week in our community and there are only about 50 of us who support the ministry. No government funding, just about $1,000 a year not paying property tax. Do the math! We're not the only congregation that gives more than we take. Sounds like you have a problem with our faith more than our non-profit status. Go after other non-profits that have same status sucking up government grants to have 90% going to admin salaries and 10% to cause.
As an ordained minister I have been involved in legal consulting for many church's 501-C-3 status. The simplest action a Church can do to protect themselves is to create a new religious tax exempt entity like a 501-D (Apostolic Organization see IRS code) Transfer all assets and property to the D, and then the D leases back to C at $1 a year with 100 year lease renewable. As renters and no assets to lose, be levied against or be confiscated, if 501-C3 status is revoked, they cannot touch the assets of the 501-D

I began my ministry with the Gifts of the Spirit as a valuable spiritual component. Just because someone has a license with an organization does not make them "legit." Preaching the Gospel is first and foremost for all offices in the five-fold ministry. A Prophet is only different from other five-fold offices because they are gifted more as a seer than others, but they are a preacher of righteousness first!. If a "Prophet/prophetess is leading people in the role of a Pastor also, and that group is not grounded and rooted in the Word to do things "decently and in order" it will be obvious to those who are grounded to stay clear of their doctrine. Jesus did not "affirm " the Old Testament. A Grand Jury is fair because it's the law! They want special status. The prosecutor would try it if he/she had grounds. They are really saying that a white person is not entitled to every legal benefit the law provides.This is repugnant! If he is charged, he then can ask for a trial by judge or jury...maybe they will say that is unfair also. I have been working with veteran's substance abuse treatment programs for over 20 years. Those with PTSD are not helped by smoking marijuana. Staying stoned all day is not treatment, it is recreational drug use. The vast majority who use marijuana continue to abuse alcohol and other drugs. The VA does not hold back pain medication from veterans with verifiable chronic pain conditions. And if they served honorably, it's usually free or has a small co=pay for those who make too much income to get it free. When a veteran with PTSD and other dual diagnosed conditions have their mental state of mind compromised by marijuana, bad things happen. This give-a-way was a disservice to our veterans.
